Believe it or not, in many nutritional supplements, the FDA allows questionable fillers and binders such as; cork byproducts, chemical FD&C dyes, sodium benzoate, dextrose, ethycellulose, and propylene glycol to name only a few. Although these ingredients may be legal, what are the nutritional benefits? Reports have indicated that some of these ingredients can be toxic at certain levels with prolonged use. The FDA does not monitor the contents or purity of a supplement nor the source of a nutritional ingredient.

There are basically three different grades of raw materials used in products:

  • Pharmaceutical Grade – meets pharmaceutical standards
  • Food Grade – meets standards set for human consumption
  • Feed Grade – meets standards set for animal consumption

The difference between each grade type is one of quality and purity. In technical terms, no substance is 100% pure. There are always other substances added to various products. The difference between these grades is one of how much of these other substances are present in the product.

There are several criteria by which pharmaceutical grade are judged. The product must be in excess of 99% purity with no binders, fillers, excipients, dyes, or unknown substances. That’s why we choose to use only Ortho Molecular nutritional supplements.

Ortho Molecular’s “Power of e” is their commitment to efficacy that produces the highest possible levels of patient wellness. From raw-material selection, all the way to the finished products they manufacture, everything they do is guided by the goal of achieving greater efficacy. They take pride in their 25 year tradition of successfully combining evidence-based formulations and superior raw ingredients to develop efficacious supplements that noticeably enhance patient health.

All Ortho Molecular Products are evidence-based. The most reliable evidence comes in the form of well-controlled human clinical trials, in populations demographically similar to the patients we treat. This is the standard they are aiming for when they consider which ingredients to include in their formulas.

Equally important as which ingredients to include is which forms of ingredients to choose. After all, there can be tremendous variation in two ingredients both called CoQ10. At Ortho Molecular Products, they hold themselves to a standard of raw material quality seldom seen in the supplement industry.

Of course, even if you have chosen evidence-based ingredients and provided them in a superior form, the formula will not work if the dosages are too small. That’s why Ortho Molecular Products always include the right therapeutic dosing of each ingredient, based on established research. This approach is what separates good supplements from great supplements — formulas that truly help our patients get better faster. It is what drives efficacy and the reason they always formulate to the “Power of e”.
