Artificial Sweeteners Can Sabotage Your Diet Plans
Most people today are having diet drinks and using artificial sweeteners assuming that because their calorie intake is lower this will help their diet plans. Research is now showing that those who consume artificial sugars like aspartame, saccharin, sucralose, or even natural sweeteners like Stevia, are more likely to have weight gain.
A study in the Journal of Behavioral Neuroscience has shown that artificial sweeteners do not help you to lose weight but actually induces a whole set of physiological and hormonal responses that actually make you gain weight. The study was performed on rats, and one group fed yogurt sweetened with sugar and the other fed yogurt with the sweetener saccharin.
After 14 days the group that was fed artificial sweetener had three things happen: the total amount of food dramatically increased, their weight increased and body fat increased, and their core temperature changed. The core temperature decrease indicated a lower metabolic function. The conclusion: the rats that ate the yogurt with the artificial sweetener and consumed FEWER calories actually GAINED more weight.
What we can learn from this is to avoid artificial sugars and stop confusing your body. If you have a craving for something sweet have a little sugar, but stay away from fake foods.
